What' s new?

August 2022: New publication out in the New Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research - How to identify the "right" stakeholders to collaborate with in freshwater management? Read here

March 2022: The new IPCC report is out. I contributed to Chapter 2 - Terrestrial and Freshwater
Ecosystems and Their Services. It's a long read, or check out the summary.

February 2022: Back to my PhD thesis topic! New review publication out, led by the fantastic Alisha Steward, on the terrestrial and semi-aquatic invertebrate fauna of intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams. Read here
January 2022: New opinion piece out in Conservation Biology: Why should we keep the virtual conference format in the future? Read here
October 2021: New articles are out!
This one explains how to integrate people's cultural values in freshwater management using a structured and transparent MCDA-based approach with a real-world case study; Lake Wanaka and its catchment in New Zealand.
And this one discusses how building an alliance between conservation journals and researchers could help promote freshwater biodiversity conservation.
May 2021: I am giving a seminar on how artificial intelligence can help our society towards becoming more sustainable during our AI-summer course. Click to see the teaser!
April 2021: Out now! My NZ summer students' report on the elicitation and clustering of community preferences for the development of a management plan across Blueskin estuary (Aotearoa New Zealand).
April 2021: New preprint available that explains how we used Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis to integrate indigenous and western cultural values with ecological and socio-economic ones in the development of a management plan for the Wanaka catchment in Aotearoa/New Zealand.  This study is exciting, because it is the first one that shows how all of these plural values can be woven together to create a management plan collaboratively with a local community.
November 2020: Short youtube clip on my SABER CULTURAL project including some of the main results
July 2020: BC3 is still working from home. What I do and other members of the ARIES group, you can now hear/see on Twitter.
June 2020: The Community Catchment Plan for Wanaka has been finalized. Read it in The Wanaka App. Download the whole document or the summary.
February 2020:
This video explains how we approach to integrate knowledge in the k.Lab group at BC3. A very light introduction to k.LAB and Integrated Modelling for non-technical audiences.
New (and first PhD)-paper (!) by Martin Friedrichs-Manthey on the effect of sub-catchment size on predicted habitat suitability (tested in the Danube catchment for 50 native fish species)
January 2020: I just moved from New Zealand to Spain. Still settling in, while finishing the Periodic Reporting to the EC.

September 2019: Art + Science collaboration exhibition
“Art and Water: Mountains to the Sea” in the Otago Museum. Come and check out how the Photographer Annemarie Hope-Cross interpreted SABER CULTURAL

February 2019: SABER CULTURAL in "The News"
August 2018: My intern Ingrid Thyr produced three podcasts about Lake Wanaka, lake management, community collaboration and cultural values
