A freshwater ecologist by training, my research combines ecosystem restoration, decision support theory and conservation planning to, often in multi-disciplinary teams, investigate alternative ways of solving complex environmental decision problems. I am particularly interested in efforts to protect or restore the natural dynamics and biodiversity of freshwater systems, while also meeting diverse human needs through engagement and true collaboration with local communities.
Mobility has been an integral part of my academic career - I have worked with leading research institutions in my field in Switzerland, Australia, Germany, New Zealand and Spain and have learnt from many people along the way. Kia ora! You can read my full CV here: ![]()

Besides loving fresh waters, I am very passionate about another aquatic environment, the ocean. Whenever I can, I am in the water surfing, swimming, diving or sailing. Each summer, I guide whale research and monitoring yacht cruises in the Mediterranean, teaching and working with other marine enthusiasts. Check out Kyma Sea for expedition dates in 2022.
